Highlighted Project:

Clark Elementary

School

A 25,000 square foot elementary school remodel with a 58,000 square foot three story addition.  The remodel includes an administration area with main entry, kitchen, commons and library.  The addition includes a gymnasium, music classrooms and the three-story classroom wing.  Mechanical spaces include a ground floor boiler room and mezzanine spaces for air handler units.  Administration areas are served by a Variable Air Volume (VAV) unit with reheat-type VAV boxes for each space.

Mechanical systems include full heating and cooling through a four pipe system serving individual air handlers.  Hydronic heating hot water is provided by two gas fired high efficiency boilers.  Chilled water for building cooling is provided by a single packaged outdoor rotary screw chiller.  High volume, low velocity fans provided additional airflow and destratification for the high ceiling gym and commons spaces.  Common relief fans react to fluctuations in building pressure to maintain proper building pressurization at all times.

Plumbing systems include high efficiency gas-fired water heaters, dual flush water closets and bottle filling stations.

Building controls consist of an Energy Management system providing scheduling, monitoring and computer based control of mechanical equipment and systems.  Innovative features included night purge in anticipation of high temperatures, and CO2 monitoring to reduce ventilation air when spaces are unoccupied.
